Uman preparing to receive Hasidic pilgrims

Dozens of thousands of pilgrims will arrive to Uman (Cherkasy region) in the period from September 17 through September 27 to celebrate Jewish Near Year (Rosh Hashana) and Ukrainian rescuers guarantee their safety.

The press service of the Ukrainian Emergencies Service reported that the issues of harmonizing security measures for Hasidic pilgrims in Uman were discussed on Tuesday at a meeting of Ukrainian Emergencies Service Head Mykola Chechetkin and Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Eliav Belotserkovsky, representatives of the police and the Counter Terrorism Bureau of Israel.

"I want to assure that the divisions of the Ukrainian Emergencies Service will make every effort to guarantee to every pilgrim safe conditions for staying in Uman. We will do our best to ensure that the holiday passes without emergency situations," Chechetkin said.

The Ukrainian Emergencies Service together with local authorities, the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine designed a set of interaction measures in the event of emergencies, fires, accidents, and a response plan. Cherkasy garrison of rescuers in this period will be in the robust security regime. In addition, on September 17-27, a combined detachment of 92 officers and 19 fire and rescue equipment units will be deployed in Uman, a diving department, a chemical and pyrotechnic group will be involved.

The ambassador of Israel in Ukraine thanked the State Emergency Service for cooperation and provision for the comfort staying of the Hasidic pilgrims in Uman.
