August 9 is International Day of World's Indigenous Peoples

The holiday arose on the initiative of the UN General Assembly 23 years ago and is a reminder of the difficulties that the representatives of these peoples can face in the modern world. The matter is about the violation of their rights to the development of ethnic, cultural, linguistic and religious identity. In Ukraine, the single and clear definition of the concept of "indigenous people" does not exist yet. These problems are most urgent today for indigenous peoples have Crimean Tatars, Gagauzians, Krymchaks, Karaites and Crimean Greeks, who are forced to survive under the annexation of the Crimea by Russia. Our state officially joined in celebrating the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples only last year.

On the occasion of the International Day of the Indigenous Peoples of the World, the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and the American House will hold a solemn celebration "Crimean Evening". In addition to the concert, everyone will be able to visit a photo exhibition, which will tell about ethnogenesis, history and culture of the Crimean Tatar people ".
