Russian court leaves Ukraine's Savchenko in custody

“Russia again violated a PACE resolution. Today begins the second week of hunger strike by PACE delegate Nadiya Savchenko,” Polozov tweeted. Earlier, on December 17, the court prolonged the custodial term for Savchenko till April 16, 2016. After this, Nadiya Savchenko declared a hunger strike. As we have reported, the Russia charges Savchenko with complicity in the murder of two Russian journalists covering the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Savchenko denies all the accusations, saying she was captured by the separatists and handed over to Russian authorities. This is her second hunger strike – earlier this year her first one in protest of her detention without trial lasted for over 80 days. Savchenko was elected in absentia to the Ukrainian parliament, and delegated from it to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
